Unmodified standard involute herringbone gears have double-sided line contact, and their load-bearing characteristics are easily affected by various asymmetric errors during machining and installation. Therefore, important gears in practical use all require a certain degree of modification. To quickly evaluate the impact of different modification methods and amounts on load-bearing characteristics, an automatic modeling method for parametric herringbone gear finite element models is proposed.

Based on the concept of Ease-off topology, the tooth surface modification amount is superimposed by modifying the coordinates of the finite element mesh nodes. On this basis, finite element simulation analysis of the load-bearing characteristics of heavy-duty herringbone gears under the influence of crossover angle error and shaft non-parallelism error is carried out.
